Secretary: Russell Knight

Russell has been Secretary of LASER MC for the past 3 years.

Russell came to motor cycling late in life via an early mid life crisis.  Having done the maths and worked out a bike was far cheaper that an affair, he decided to do a direct access course for his 30th birthday.

Fast forward a couple of months and he was doing his test on a Yamaha Diversion, quote: “you haven’t lived until you’ve been chased round Bedford by a lady examiner in a pink Corolla”. He stopped off on his way home and bought his first bike, a Yamaha Fazer 600.

After wobbling about for a couple of months, advanced training was required and he joined the local branch of the IAM and did one of their skills for life course, almost getting knocked off by none other than Sven-Goran Eriksson whilst out and about on the back roads of Hertfordshire.  He managed to pass their advanced test after a few training sessions and would recommend some form of advanced road riding course to anyone new to motorcycling (giving a job to the examiner’s daughter always helps as well!).

Trading up to a Honda VFR800 after about a year is when he first met Dave (LASER MC Chair) as an instructor on the Honda Motorcycle Appreciation Course.  It’s also when he had his first bike drop incident whilst completing the mirror-signal-stall procedure turning right after a coffee stop.  It may have cost him a fairing panel and the brake lever but it was his introduction to what was to become LASER MC.

His first ever tour was with the then Honda UK riders club to North Wales.  He preferred the informal, friendly club atmosphere and the way the marker system allows slower and faster riders to ride at their own pace without losing anyone.  When Honda decided to wind up the riders club, he was delighted that Dave and others decided to keep the club going.  Since then the club has run numerous ride outs and tours ranging from simple over night trips to extensive tours of Spain and the Alps as well as the monthly ride outs and club nights.  He has even been known to lead a few himself and has organised several of the club tours.
